Background info on plants in Sumi-e

In classical sumi-e painting, the plants usually appear light, poetic and delicate. A reflection on the few and the essential has taken place. It is more of a suggestion than an expression. And yet, or precisely because of this, the pictures radiate perfection.

Marianne Marx-Bleil also deviated from this from time to time and worked with harder brushstrokes and expressed herself with strong colors, especially on heavily textured, her self-made paper.

Here the colorful, expressed joy of life, the blossoming, the mature, there the delicate leaf that easily detaches itself from life. Everything in seemingly empty space, in the void, the emptiness - the universe.
